How I Use AI on CarAudioNow (and Where I Don't)

The short version: I use AI every day to run CarAudioNow. I don't use it to write my articles for me, and I don't let it choose the products I recommend. The picks and the opinions on this site are mine, and they always will be.

I'm Kameron Scott. I installed car, RV and boat stereos for a living before I started CarAudioNow in 2010, and I've been writing about this gear ever since (more about me here). This page lays out exactly where I stand on AI: how I use it, and where I draw the line.

Why I'm putting this in writing

AI has become instrumental in how we all get things done day to day. It's also made it increasingly easy to fake content, or to create content for no other reason than to make money. Anyone can generate an article about car stereos, speakers or subwoofers now that looks great and reads great. What it won't be is genuine. It didn't come from someone who actually understands the products, has had them in their hands, and has real knowledge of this industry.

If you're about to spend real money on new gear and take your dash apart to install it, you should know who's behind the advice you're reading. So here it is, straight.

How I use AI

I use AI every day, and more and more in my articles. Here's what it does for me:

  • Strategy. It helps me frame up my strategy: what to cover, and how to lay out a guide so it's easy to follow.
  • Clearer writing. I use it to make my articles more legible and articulate. The thoughts are mine. AI helps me say them better.
  • Research and validation. It supplements my own research and helps me validate things, like double-checking a spec before it goes into a guide.
  • The Vehicle Fit Guide. I used it to help me assemble the guide and tie my own recommendations to each vehicle. More on that below.

Where I draw the line

I don't use AI to automate my articles. In any way. My buyer's guides, reviews, installs and how-tos are very much mine, and they always will be.

I also don't let AI choose my products blindly. I do the research, test features and functionality, and review the specs before anything lands on one of my lists (here's how I choose). When you see a recommendation on CarAudioNow, it's my recommendation, not AI's.

The Vehicle Fit Guide

The Vehicle Fit Guide is the one place where AI does a lot of the heavy lifting, so I want to be upfront about it. I used AI to help me assemble it: organizing fitment data for thousands of vehicles, writing up the notes for each one, and tying my own recommendations to each vehicle based on its specs. There's no way I could've built that by hand for every year, make and model.

The products it recommends are still my picks, pulled from my own buyer's guides. And if you spot something that's off for your vehicle, let me know and I'll get it fixed.

Why a real person's picks still matter

Research and recommendations are at the tip of your fingers now. Open a chat with ChatGPT or Claude and you'll have an answer in seconds. I still think recommendations from a real person are valuable in that world, and here's why.

Those AI answers come from somewhere. At the end of the day, these tools are trained on, and lean on, content and recommendations like my own. When a chatbot tells you which speakers to buy, that answer often traces back to sites like CarAudioNow.
